Flavorful Weekend Nights:
An Evening of Chocolate & Wine Pairing
Saturday, November 26, 2016
7.00 – 9:00 p.m.
Forrest’s Mom was right… “Life Is Like A Box of Chocolates!” And if you take it one step further, pairing chocolate with wine transcends an ordinary life, for sure.  Let’s just say that chocolate and wine go together like Forrest and Jenny “go together like peas & carrots!”  Join us for a special 2-hour experience of one of life’s greatest treasures as a professional shows us how to pair wine with chocolate.  Keri Lauderdale Olson (Chocolate Cork) will teach us the proper techniques for tasting chocolate.  Yes there really IS such a thing.  Then we’ll take off on an adventure that involves perfectly paired wines with various fine chocolate types.  So “Run, Forrest, Run!’ to this unique class!

Heartland Winemaker's Dinner featuring Robller VineyardHeartland Winemaker’s Dinner
featuring Röbller Vineyard & Winery

Saturday, Sept. 17  | 6:30 – 9:00 p.m.
at The Culinary Center of Kansas City
7920 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park, KS

After this very special wine dinner/class, we promise you’ll look at Missouri wines in a whole new way.  On September 17, we are pleased to feature one of Missouri’s best – Robller Vineyard in New Haven, Mo., which is a gorgeous vineyard nestled on 18 acres of rolling vines in the heart of Missouri wine country.   Winemaker Jerry Mueller is passionate about the wines produced by his family’s vineyard which uses very traditional French methods of vinification in order to create world class wines from estate grown grapes.  This approach generally takes significantly longer but the results are an amazing complexity and balance in each wine produced. It is a path less traveled that creates a superior outcome.  Jerry’s philosophy lies in the belief that the land defines the fruit which in turn defines the wines.  Winegrowing is not just this family’s livelihood but rather an expression of their passion and dedication to the land and their culture.

Jerry will lead us in a very special and entertaining evening focusing on multi-course perfect pairings of food and Robller Vineyards wines.  Our own Culinary Center of Kansas City chefs will prepare dishes highlighting Missouri artisans such as Cool Cow products from Martha & Tom’s Farm in Owensville, MO, (a family owned and operated sustainable farm located in the heart of historic Missouri German wine country.)  The menu will be designed around, and sourced from seasonal and local products and will include highlights such as a Poulet Mirabelle (chicken with plums, olives and tomatoes), Beouf en Daube (beef braised in red wine), and a beautiful cheese course with a Robller Port to round out the menu.

The wine dinner will highlight some of the wines for which Jerry is the proudest. It’s a power-packed dinner event brimming with culinary experience and acumen. Join us for this incredible evening of great wine and a fabulous farm-to-table gourmet dinner.

($75/person includes dinner, wine pairings and wine education)

What is your most indispensable kitchen tool?
As Certified Sommelier, it would be my classic wine opener also known as a “Waiter’s Friend”.

What is your food/wine obsession?
The wine of Southern France, namely the rich and full bodied wine from the Rhone Region in France, paired with any cheese from the same region.

What is your top restaurant recommendation in Kansas City?
For a casual dining experience, I love Joe’s Kansas City BBQ and Milano Italian Dining in Crown Center.  For a fine dining experience Blue Stem in Westport, and I love what Chef Corvino is doing at The American.

Growing up in rural Kansas, my favorite meal is fried chicken with pan gravy, fresh green beans and mashed potatoes.

Favorite cheap eat?
